Description:

We at Born Fly would like to take the time to acknowledge the current state of our country and the events that led us here. We would like to offer our condolences to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Sandra Bland, Philando Castille, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice & Mike Brown. Although the murder of George Floyd has sparked outrage in our country, this incident was the most recent in a long history of Black people dying at the hands of law enforcement and we wanted to acknowledge the pain all of these families have felt. We stand in solidarity with these families seeking justice for their loved ones and also with the people of this country who are working hard to bring about the long overdue changes our country needs. The protesters, the activists and those that have volunteered their time, energy and money to pressure our local, state and federal government to bring about real change, we thank you.

As a brand, we would also like to give transparency to our customers about who we are and the diversity of our company. Born Fly started with 3 brothers as a small brand in Brooklyn, New York. They are black men whose family immigrated to the US from Panama, and their grandfather had his own clothing store where he tailored suits for politicians and businessmen in Brooklyn in the 1980’s. In 2001 the brothers opened up their own clothing store, “Vinnies Styles”, named after their grandfather. On our staff we have black men and women in senior positions in design, sales and marketing because we believe in inclusivity with respect to race, gender and sexual orientation.  We are mothers and fathers of black children, so this is a time that has had all of us wondering about the future of our country.

We have all asked ourselves “how can we continue this momentum of change we are experiencing in our country?”. Sometimes we feel like the problem is so big and we’re not sure what we can do to help. We are a clothing company and we will help in the way we know how.  We are going to offer a preorder of this tee shirt on our website, 100% of the proceeds of this tee shirt will be donated to The Colin Kaepernick “Know Your Rights Camp”. We thought it was appropriate to support the foundation led by the person who sparked the match that lit this fire of change we see burning today. In this way, we hope we can affect some positive change.
